I just watched "Ted Bundy" (who was a Republican)
Some flick on "True" or "Myst" or one of those channels. I was an infant at the time, but can someone confirm for me that they let this Republican escape from jail TWICE before finally putting him away? Or did they make that up for the movie?

1. I think that's true.
One time, he lost enough weight to shimmy through an air vent, IIRC.

5. We shall have to consult the ultimate authority on all such matters:
The Great and Mighty Google:

http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/streiber/273/bundy_mo.htm

"After a morning courtroom session in Aspen, Bundy succeeded in wandering into the library during the lunch recess, and jumping out of the window. He was recaptured eight days later, tired and hungry, and driving a stolen car.

"Legal arguments dragged on for another six months - what evidence was admissable and what was not. And on 30 December 1977, Bundy escaped again, using a hacksaw blade to cut through an imperfectly welded steel plate above the light fixture in his cell."

I was wrong about the air vent. :hi:

2. All true.
One of the reasons I'm so fond of the death penalty.

IIRC, he was fried on Old Sparky. And I was pleased.

When "W" was younger?

I am not kidding they looked like they could be brothers about 24 years ago!

7. Yes, it's all true
I was terrified of Ted Bundy as a kid, because I was a paranoid lunatic even then, and I was obsessed with crime (as I still am). Yes, he escaped from jail twice, yes he was a Republican. I remember the "Ted" terror in Seattle in the early '70s so well, even though I was very young then. Still sends chills, though.

I remember going through sorority rush at the UW and seeing the portrait of Georgann Hawkins in the back hall of the Theta house. She was one of his victims in '74 - she had been abducted in the alley right behind Greek Row, where there were tons of people around. It's very chilling that people like him can live among us.

21. And they've still never found Georgann, have they.
I would have been scared too. Kimberly Leach was only 12. I don't think you and I are that far apart in age.

I always wore my brown hair long, parted in the middle.

I read a bio of him right around that time and it scared the crap out of me.

23. Her story made me more nervous than the others....
since the book I read mentioned that she'd walked down a dark alley and was very nearsighted.

I'm horribly nearsighted.

I know they found a bunch up in that area. You'd think at least if he was "helping to catch the Green River Killer" he could have told them where the rest of the girls were.

Thank God he's dead.

8. He did manage to escape twice
but keep in mind it was from holding cells in fairly small cities, not from high security prisons. The best book about him, IMHO, is Ann Rule's "The Stranger Beside Me".

9. If you ever want to see the best and worst serial killer film
(worst in the sense that it gets under your skin watching it)

Try "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer".

11. "Henry"
It's the best movie made on the subject because of it's complete plausibility. The characters are completely believable and their actions are very real. Yes, they do walk among us. My theory is that the serial killer we hear about are the losers and washouts who get caught. The real evil is the perfectly normal sales representative, janitor, orthodontist, or whatever who commits murders over the course of their life and account for many of the John and Jane Doe bodies across the country. It's a scary freaking world.

20. Yeah, I don't think serial killers should be laid at the feet
of any political party. I don't think politics really plays into any part of whatever makes them a serial killer.

24. Read all about Bundy *Republican Serial Killer* here:
http://www.crimelibrary.com/bundy/attack.htm

I didn't like this movie, as they seemed to enjoy the victimization of women in the scenes?

It reminded me of a "detective" magazine version of events.

http://detective-magazine.com/detective_magazine_7.html

There are better versions of the story however.

27. Yes he was a Republican.
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 10:36 PM by Sean Reynolds
Bundy is well known around Salt Lake City, being this was the city that first captured him. He was a Republican that always wanted to run for office up in Washington.

He killed women up in Washington before moving down to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah. It's unknown how many people he actually killed in Salt Lake, but the only known victim to escape was a Salt Laker. She gave the police much needed info on what he drove, what he looked like and what he did to women. This led to his arrest, where he escaped from the jail and found his way to Colorado. While in Colorado he killed a few more people before getting arrested yet again. Again he broke loose and found his way down to Florida, where he massacared a a college house filled with girls.

29. This could describe bunnypants' foreign policy
Not all Republicans are dickwads. It is bunnypants and his band of merry control freaks that represent some of what is quoted from a serial killer article and their need to control and possess.

snip

Right now we seem inexplicably under siege not by armies, or even gangs, but by mostly middle-class white guys of varying ages who are skidding wildly out of control, targeting multiple defenseless victims, usually strangers, for murder.
