blastocysts fail to attach to the uterine wall!
I'm in a debate about abortion!

Someone who thinks life begins at conception disbelieves that some blastocysts fail to attach to the uterine wall!

I can't find anywhere that provides a figure on the chances a fertilized egg will implant!

Help!

2. About 60 % of all blastocysts are aborted by the body for any number
of reasons including genetic defects and poor uterine lining.

5. Thanks!
I found this:

"Of these 189 pregnancies, 141 (75 percent) lasted at least six weeks past the last menstrual period, and the remaining 48 pregnancies (25 percent) ended in early loss." (PDF: http://dir.niehs.nih.gov/direb/fulltext/nejm1999ajw1.pdf)

3. Sex Education
I'd say 101, but fertilized eggs not implanting is 5th grade sex ed.

Here's a nice little web page that will not only prove your point, but make any adult feel like a retard for not knowing basic female reproduction. Good lord, what's to become of this country.

6. I don't try to embarass people I'm trying to sway
I'm polite unless the person is an ass. Being misinformed is OK!

8. Your choice
Adults not knowing fertilized eggs don't implant isn't ok in my book. Not when they're the same ones who are fighting abortion without any scientific knowledge and fighting sex education in the schools at the same time.

And simply posting that particular link isn't you doing anything except posting a link. You don't have to actually SAY anything about it.

11. If people were informed ...
Bush would not have won a single state in '00
We wouldn't have invaded Iraq
... on and on.

Being misinformed is a real problem in America and we can choose to be angry and gnash our teeth, or we can smile and try to befriend and council the misinformed.

That's my take on it at least.

13. My experience
is that you have to hit the heart and the head at the same time. Facts are easily forgotten. Facts, with an emotional trigger, are never forgotten. An adult, realizing that they didn't know something that's on a kids health web site, will never forget what they learned. The knowledge that we lose blastocysts every day without a second thought opens a tiny crack in their belief in the tragedy of abortion. Which is my take on it anyway.

4. You could bring up ectopic pregnancies,
where the zygote attaches to the Fallopian tube or other non-uterine tissue. The evidence of ectopic pregnancies proves that the fertilized egg doesn't always attach to the uterine wall.

7. Ultimately, I dont think this argument will get you anywhere

because you're dealing with people who will invoke 'the will of God' and discount chance, genetics, biology, and other rational arguments and assert that it is not man's place to make these choices reserved for a diety.

9. We don't baptize these blastocysts
I've made that argument with Catholics on occasion, we don't baptize or have funerals for these blastocysts, we don't mourn them, we don't even know they're gone. Perhaps crying about dead blatocysts is a bit much. Some of them do take a second look, especially when you compare these blatocysts to a woman's health.

12. I agree
But others reading the thread may be influenced, and a big reason I talk top partisan Republicans is to plant doubt in their heads. They'll still continue spewing lies, but if they remember a debate that somewhere inside they knew they lost, the people they're talking to will sense their uncertainty, exposing the lie. Most people aren't good liars.

14. That's not so much an abortion debate
as it is a morning-after-pill debate.
