Must have missed it earlier.

Great reply! Congrats!

2. Thanks...I felt I needed to save the "1000" post for a special post/reply
"Hightime" if you ever see the posts that he/she does are either filled with profanity, insulting people or trying to defend actions of the Bu$h Co or attacking someone in the Kerry or democratic party...how hightime has managed to survive, is beyond me, but I thought it was relevant to answer with something quite personal to me and that is on the issue of whether "gay marriage" is a threat to the American Family...BS....like I said in my answer, all three kids in my family, raised by Lesbian parents, are now married (to members of the opposite sex) with kids....we were raised with good values and to "love" not hate....the threat to our country and the American Family has nothing to do with "Gay Marriage"...

Congratulations! Your personal story blows his arguments right out of the water! Like you, I think that one must look at individuals and individual situations before deciding if a person is a good parent or not.

4. Well done!
I'm still reading and enjoying the thread. I like this quote from the Loving case:
"The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men."

"Orderly pursuit of happiness" -- very good turn of phrase by the Justices. One of my arguments all along for civil marriage has been social stability.

PBS Evening News (Jim Lehrer) just did a rerun of a Richard Rodriguez essay on gay marriage that first aired in March. It featured a lot of footage of couples lined up at the San Francisco City Hall. I cried all over again at the sight of so much love, so many baby strollers, so much evidence that many couples had been together for years already. (Yeah, you could say I cried at their weddings.) As Rodriguez pointed out, they've *already* formed families. That's what people do.

I only hope I use my thousandth post half as well as you have done.

Hekate

5. It was my "coming out" on the DU as a child of gay parents....
...and it just goes to show that there are many of us out there, leading "normal" (whatever that means) lives as parents raising families and oh my gawd, we didn't turn out to be perverted, abusive, homosexuals who want to marry one another and dessimate the world population as a result of having been raised by gay parents....

If Rick Santorum saw me, his head would explode...I'm a petite blonde Jr League looking "Soccer Mom" w/ two lil ones driving my station wagon to the supermarket and the playground...and...married somone of the opposite sex....WOW...how does one explain that?

Time for Sen Rick Santorum and the Family Councils to scratch their heads....

6. Please read my LTTE in the Civil Rights/Equality/Privacy
forum.

I must warn you that it is quite long, and it was written as an answer to a fundy wingnut in my community who was urging everyone to support FMA.

I did quite a bit of research on gay/lesbian parents, and summarized the research, with a link. The results are positve, of course.

My daughter is gay, and I think she has every right to marry her long-term partner and raise a family. They will both make great moms.

I do not recall running into the poster you refer to. Maybe you should alert?
