I come from a family of teachers -- sister is currently a teacher, dad recently retired, mom quit when she had me, maternal grandfather was a teacher/administrator until he died, both paternal grandparents now teach part-time.

I lasted a whopping year.

9. I used to teach high/jr high band for a couple of years.
When I noticed that most of my time was spent fundraising and lobbying for each and every tax bill that came down the pike, I gave it up. I still love teaching, but the politics of being a band director is for the fucking birds.

Why couldn't it ever just be about the music? That's all that mattered to me.
