tonight a coworker told me wmds were found in iraq
any truth to this? i looked in lbn and found nothing, i had been watching cnn all day before i went to work and heard nothing, i am waatching cnn now and am seeing nothing.

was there anything found, or was he just trying to bait me? he is a strong right republican that calls himself an independant, he knows im liberal and loves tryin to get me into fights, he kinda double teams me with some of the other far righties around the store, or tries. considering i had been paying attention to the news all day i didnt buy it and just kinda shrugged him off and asked him to quote his source and said "its all over the radio". im assuming he was listening to rush or some crap like that.

anyway, anyone heard anything about this?

1. Drudge reported an already debunked report that nuke missiles were found..
...in TIKRIT of all places.

It's just more bs.

2. It was in the Moonie Paper
the Washington Times I think it's called. It hasn't been anywhere else. If it were true we'd be seeing chimpface all over the news with it

3. He's full of shit.

Awhile back the WH claimed we found shells with traces of chemical weapons in them. Couple weeks later further testing showed that they didn't.

4. The Moonie Times reported it earlier, but it's been debunked.
Search DU earlier today - lots of threads on it.

Edited on Wed Jul-21-04 08:33 PM by vivalarev
apparently, there was an unconfirmed report, i believe out of iraq, that forces had found three missles that were fitted with nuclear warheads buried in 6 feet of concrete near tikrit....it has not been confirmed. it just sounds like something that o'reilly would make up.

6. Here's the debunking article...
http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=39564

"Nothing's been found," Master Sgt. Robert Cowens, a spokesman for the 1st Infantry Division, based in Tikrit, told UPI. "The report is not factual."

Asked by Reuters about the report, a spokesman at Iraq's interior ministry said: "It's stupid."

8. Some report in an obscure paper out "nuclear" warheads in Iraq
Even Fox ignored it, and Drudge downplayed it.

I assure you that if "nuclear warheads" had really been found in Iraq it would have been all over the news, to the exclusion of everyone else. These people are so desperate to find a justification for their despicable war.

10. Debunk link
from the Moonie Times, of all places.

http://www.washtimes.com/upi-breaking/20040721-081009-2541r.htm

"The daily al-Sabah newspaper Wednesday had quoted sources as saying three missiles armed with nuclear warheads were discovered in a trench near the city of Tikrit, the hometown of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

A U.S. military spokesman in Tikrit told United Press International that the report was untrue.

"Nothing's been found. The report is not factual," said Master Sgt. Robert Cowens, a spokesman for the 1st Infantry Division, based in Tikrit."

Note that al-Sabah, the source of the story, is the US-funded Iraq newspaper, whose Editor in Chief and most of the staff left last May because they said the US wasn't allowing them journalistic freedom.
