I agree, Balok. TOS and DS9 are the best, with TNG a distant third. VOY and ENT aren't even in the same solar system. Well, except for 7.

2. TOS was fun, and NG was decent sci-fi. |
|
But DS9 was good television. Irrespective of genre.

Yeah, DS9 is excellent. They certainly took more risks than TNG or VOY did.

7. They actually cared about things like "character" and "dialogue"... |

Yeah, the best TOS episodes had those things too. I think in some ways that DS9 was the best of them all, though TOS gets extra credit from me considering the era in which it was produced and the budget constraints they had to work with.

12. Yes, but the DS9 actors were better. |
|
That said, I have a lot of respect for TOS. Good science fiction is not about weird aliens and special effects -- no, GOOD science fiction is a metaphor for our time.
TOS succeeded admirably at that.

Yes, even Enterprise and Voyager. Nothing beats Classic Trek though. It was years ahead of its time.

11. Most of them are great |
|
Though I confess that I absolutely hated Voyager and wouldn't watch it after second season, and I have come to dislike Enterprise because it's so damned boring. I really hope they go back to self-contained episodes or two-parters at worst, because the Xindi cycle crushed my enthusiasm for the show. And I happen to LOVE Scott Bakula, so I'm really put off by how bad it's been.
On the other hand, TOS was a great beginning that while not "pretty" anymore, had some great stories, Next Gen was good because it offered us what TOS could have been, the films have had more money to make them more sustainable to non-SF or non-ST fans, and DS9 had the best in character development.
