No shit. I really wanted a second vote just so's I could give props...
...to the Wipers. Yeah, they put out some crappy records in the '80s (who didn't?), but "Return of the Rat" is one of the coolest songs ever.

20. Yup.
Sage could still play, of course... but a goodly amount of his songwriting brilliance seemed to disappear.

The solo in 'Just Like Me' is right up there in the all-time solo pantheon if you ask me.

8. The Raiders freakin' ROCKED!!!
Well, the first lineup, with Smitty and Fang. Long before the Mark Lindsey and... days.

'Just Like Me' and 'Steppin' Out' were ferocious.

35. They were amazing live
It was never captured on record in the same way. I was in the studio when they recorded "Youth Of America" and "Over The Edge", but their live shows really captured the anger and alienation that I still feel today. I was very fortunate to have my band(s) open for them at a few gigs in the late '70's and early '80's.

One of their songs is "Return of the Rat", I bet they played that one!

24. Of course, they really played the same music...
...Seattle bands had been playing for 30 years. They just got lumped into the whole "grunge" thing because of where they happened to live at that particular time.

So, FY -- speaking of that time and place, think I can work "Hate" comics into this thread somehow?

29. That was a New Year's show, wasn't it?
I was a huge fan of the whole Pacific Northwest/SubPop/CZ thing in high school. This was a good year or two before the whole thing burst open the way it did. By far Mudhoney were my favorite. I saw them in Pittsburgh back in 93 and it's still the best show ever. Good set, good sound, and great attitude. They rocked!

27. Why I voted for the Wailers
They were the first really big band out of Tacoma; they influenced everyone from the Sonics on down. And Buck Ormsby discovered the Sonics. At one point there wasn't a truck stop anywhere in the NW that didn't have "Tall Cool One" on it.

I was fortunate enough to know and play withmany of them.

The Portland/Seattle/Vancouver scene is unmatched for pure, raw rock and roll.

We're having a 25-year reunion in Portland soon.

Anyone here remember Napalm Beach?
