I hate it when a tyre blows off the rim...
So I mount-up a new Hutchinson "Excel" on the rear wheel of my Raleigh, and while I'm in the kitchen, I hear a "BANG!" from the shop.

Damn thing climbed off the rim and the tube let go. Brand-new Presta tube! Shit!

Same thing happened last month with a Continental "Sport 1000" on my Fuji, but the sidewall failed that time.

1. Are you sure
you're mounting those things right?

4. Must not have...
I replaced the tube, and had trouble getting the bead to seat. It held overnight...
The Conti just flat failed. Ripped lose from the wire and everything.

6. It takes me
about two or three iterations before I have MTB tires/tyres seated properly on the rim. I inflate, deflate, inflate again, etc.

Years ago, when I was gullible enough to ride on sewups, one came off my front rim due to my not having used enough glue. I was going at slow speed. I landed on my left middle finger. It's still bent.

3. lucky you
it's always better to have a break down at home rather than far away from home.

I once had a blow out about 8 miles from home, Smart me, had a spare, tube, so I fixed it up, hopped on rode about 2 feet, and blew out the spare. I hadn't noticed that what caused the original blow out was the sidewall of the tire giving out. So I didn't notice that inflating the replacement tube had caused it to bulge out through the tear in the tire. oops - long walk home.

:hi:

5. That's why I carry strips of Fed-Ex envelope with me.
So if I cut the casing I can "boot" the tyre and limp home on it...I had to walk a mile in my socks after the sidewall blew. I was NOT going that far in cleats!
