Boy, the reviews of "Catwoman" are brutal.
The reviewer in the Chicago Tribune said it was as bad "Showgirls"

Well, there's $10.50 I saved.

Yikes! :-)

It surpassed my expectations
I was expecting it to be a steaming pile of crap, but it's actually even worse.

When a movie has more than two or three screenwriters, that's usually not a good sign. Catwoman had four.

4. Good....I hope it tanks royally....
I just hate the "me too" bottom feeding of hollywood studios, and this half-baked project is the prime example of it. Superhero movies are all well and good when they are well cast, decently written, and throroughly fleshed out. Spiderman, X-Men, even something like Hell Boy all fit the bill.

But this was by the numbers crap "Hey, Halle Berry is an Oscar Winner and since Catwoman is barely a character from comic books, we can get some comic book cachet without having to shell out a ton of money."

25. Well you know why Berry did this movie, no?
She was all pissy that she didn't get a big enough part in X-Men 2. Apparently if you win an Oscar, writers are supposed to re-design their scripts so your part is more important. She threatened to not do any more X-Men movie, and Marvel told if she asked for more money or a larger part, she could go shove that Oscar straight up her ass.

So she figured she would do her own Superhero movie, and star in it, and make a ton of money to snub Marvel (you will note that Catwoman is a DC Comics property). That way should demand eighty billion dollars to be Storm again, and Marvel would have to pay because she is now a comic book fanboy favorite. So, yeah, that worked out really fucking well.

Not something I was looking forward to seeing, thankfully.

8. Yeah, but there's still "RIDING GIANTS" to see!
Big, bad kahunas -- Gargantuan waves produce breath-taking displays of surfing in "Riding Giants"
http://www.oregonlive.com/search/index.ssf?/base/entertainment/109041135434340.xml?oregonian?alfs

"Stacy Peralta's big, wet kiss to big wave surfing is a gorgeous, seductive explication du sport that rescues a demanding pastime from the rocky shoals of a Gidget-driven pop-culture misperception. True surfers are not slackers on a permanent vacation, but a species of serious-minded adrenaline junkies who've arranged their lives around what amounts to a mystical pursuit.

There's so much that beguiles about "Riding Giants," not the least of which is cinematographer Grant Washburn's gee-whiz footage of gargantuan waves that arch over tiny-by-comparison hot shots scooting down the face. This is breath-catching stuff -- you practically get wet -- but it's too obvious, and Peralta knows it. Instead, the director of the acclaimed 2002 skateboarding documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys" works every aspect of filmmaking to give voice and meaning to a sport that exists at once as a mystery and a cliche.

The beginning gets off to a wry start with the zippy, animated "1,000 Years of Surfing in Two Minutes or Less," a rundown of surfing history from its Hawaiian roots through the middle part of last century, when a bunch of renegades from Southern California arrived in Hawaii to catch waves and live off pineapple and the occasional purloined chicken.

Surfers are not known for being articulate, dude. But the charismatic shredders Peralta has corralled into giving his story voice (Greg Noll, Jeff Clark, Laird Hamilton) do a nice job of explaining it all. Unless you've surfed yourself, it's difficult to imagine how this esoteric pastime can define and give meaning to an entire life."

I can't wait.

11. I wonder if it's half as good as Dogtown and Z-Boys...
I worship that movie. I'm not even a rabid skater, but that movie just was so inspirational. Just the power of a group of people coming together and starting something from nothing and growing it organically, and watching how the fame and attention affects each person differently and how corporate tentacles affected the sport.

Man, now I want to see it again.

14. That's to be expected since Peralta was a skater...
..obviously he is going to be much closer to that subject matter and have better access. I know he surfed too, but his forte was clearly on land.

22. There's also the sophomore effort jinx.
Though it appears that he definitely put together a good movie. It's difficult to beat Z-Boys, which is about as good a documentary as I've ever seen.

9. The new Catwoman costume alone...
...probably knocked a couple stars off the critics' assessment. The old Catwoman catsuit was much sexier even though it covered more.

16. And it's not as slinky as the original costume.
I think the pants are even slightly flared at the bottom. I can see outfits like that anytime. Nothing special about it.

17. I've seen more tasteful Frederick's stuff.
My best friend had a funny observation about it back when the pics first made the rounds on the comic geek sites. She said it looked like Halle Berry got jumped in an alley by a bunch of feral cats.

The only possible reason I can think of to see this shitfest is that apparently the trailer for "Batman Begins" will be attached to it.
