But if it came to a choice between me and ice cream I'd be screwed.

Edited to introduce you to the vile beast.

3. How about alcohol?
Have you ever let your dog taste it? I had a dog that loved to lick the bottom of my whiskey glass and it begged and begged for a drink when it smelled it in my glass. I never let it drink too much, but I occasionally gave it a little amount in a bowl as a special treat. It was especially fond of Kentucky bourbon. I was told that that was unusual for a dog.

I can't leave a margarita at "dog level."
Found that one out the hard way. He seems to love tequila.

But he'd bite me over ice cream.

4. My dogs drink beer, which is quite common, I hear.
I am a whiskey drinker myself though. Hubby and doggies like the beer.

31. My older dog loves appletinis
If she smells them she comes over and just sits there wagging her tail waiting for a taste.

6. My morning coffee isn't safe
around my dog. The normal routine is for me to bring my cup of coffee and sit down in my chair. I put the cup on the table after taking a sip. El pupbo comes and jumps in my lap and starts smelling my breath to see what kind of coffee we're having that morning. The whole time he's sniffing my breath, he's also licking the air as if he were licking a bowl.

He then proceeds to get down and go wake his 'Pa' up. When I hear 'Pa' stirring around in the bedroom I get up and go make Pa's coffee. While I'm pouring 'Pa's' coffee, El Pupbo runs back, jumps up into my chair and helps himself to my coffee.

I bring 'Pa's' coffee into the living room and set it down next to his chair and I sit down in mine where I notice half of my coffee has evaporated into thin air.

Do you understand how hard it is to change morning habits? I know perfectly well I should take my coffee with me when I go to make Pa a cup but I keep forgetting!

Actually I think it's the french vanilla cream in the coffee that she really likes. Can't leave an unguarded cup of coffee around her.

11. I feel your pain. My dogs would protect my house
UNLESS a robber happened to be armed with pork rinds.

Then, they'd be crunching away while someone walked away with my stuff.

13. there is an old saying
the best thing about a dog is they don't care if you make a fool of yourself; in fact, they are apt to make of fool of themselves right along with you. :)

14. What a sweet face! Those eyes melt my heart!
And who is it that gives the "vile beast" ice cream? LOL! Did you know that there is ice cream actually made for dogs? It's called Frosty Paws and can be found in the frozen food section. I used to get it for my little Cairn Terrier, but I used to take him out with me for soft ice cream, as well. He always got vanilla, never chocolate, as chocolate is toxic for dogs. He was an ice cream fiend, LOL!:P

25. We got Frosty Paws
at Publix when we lived in Florida, but can't find it here. I make a homemade version with 1 pint plain non-fat yogurt, one 6 oz jar of Gerber banana baby food, 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter, and 1 tablespoon honey. Mix it in a food processor and freeze it in ice cube trays. He loves it.:9

28. Thanks for the recipe!!!
It sounds good even to me, so that means that the dogs will love it! When I used to get my little dog Frosty Paws, my aunt tried it, just to see what it tasted like, LOL! I never did. This sounds much better!:9

Welcome to DU, TheCentepedeShoes! It's great to meet another kindred spirit and it's immediately obvious that you're going to fit right in!:toast:

15. This image raises several questions.
1. Was there ever a better example of the, 'dogs resemble their owners' thing?

2. What kind of guitar is that case meant for?

3. Who picked out the couch?

20. Jukes reminded me of this poem last night
Pretty much describes how pet animal lovers feel about their pets -- especially dogs.

"Inscription On The Monument Of a Newfoundland Dog"
Lord Byron -- 1808

When some proud son of man returns to earth,
Unknown to glory, but upheld by birth,
The sculptor’s art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rest below:
When all is done, upon the tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been:
But the poor dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first ot welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his master’s own,
Who labors, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonored falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth:
While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.
Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power,
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship is all a cheat,
Thy smiles hypocrisy, thy words deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye! who perchance behold this simple urn,
Pass on—it honors none you wish to mourn:
To mark a friend’s remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one,—and here he lies.

The dog's name is Barrabus.

Or at least that's what he told me. He could be lying. He's done it before.
