Just back from Linda Ronstadt concert.... |
|
Great fun. She played with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. They opened with a nice overture of some of her standard pop hits, then did Rhapsody in Blue. Then Linda came out and did a great show.
She made some very funny references to the recent turmoil. Her first words were "as you might've heard, I usually do Desperado for an encore, but tonight I think we'll do Viva Las Vegas.
Partway through the show she went into a more detailed explanation of what happened in Vegas. She said her whole tour, she's said the same thing, and every place reacts the same. A lotta people cheer, then a few people boo. Then she encouraged us to cheer or boo as we felt and get it out of our systems. One guy yelled out "We paid to hear you sing, not talk politics!" and she quickly replied "Oh, you'll hear me sing some more. But I'm gonna finish what I have to say," and the audience cheered.
Of course, for the encore, she did Desperado and dedicated it to Michael Moore to a lot of cheers and a few scattered boos.
She's still got an awesome voice and did a great selection of old jazz/pop standards and then a bunch of her greatest hits. Good show.

1. RWers are such babies about everything. |

If I went to a concert and the singer dedicated his/ her encore to George Bush*, I'd question his/ her sanity but I wouldn't throw a drink or walk out in a huff.

like maybe "Too Many Puppies", "Uncle Fucker", "Springtime for Hitler", and/or "Holiday in Cambodia". That'd be quite the barnburner, eh?

But, you left out the part about how you dumped a pitcher of Old Milwaukee Light on a booer. HIS pitcher, of course.
Just kidding... it will never cease to amaze me, the way the conservative frenzy spreads. The Vegas thing wasn't half of what it was made to be. Honestly, how does one tear down a poster that's behind well-lit glass, anyhow?
Is her voice as beautiful as ever? Sometimes, when I listen to old Linda, I get chills. Still.

4. my only problem with Linda is ... |
|
after she heard the mix on "You're No Good", she asked the producer ... words to the effect of ... what's up with this Beatles' shit on this?
Fine pipes on the lady.
Did you hear her do Gilbert and Sullivan?
In the words of the Bush twins ... amazing.

5. Don't the Bush Twins also enjoy the word "excellent?" |

I'm with Wonkette... Karl Rove, in heavy makeup, played the role of Jenna. :D

9. If you want to know how the conservative frenzy spreads.... |

read "The Republican Noise Machine" by David Brock.
The Right has gotten rumor-mongering (complete with response instructions for their minions) down to a fine art. It is truely chilling.
