1. There is a trick you can use for this
The psychiatrist Victor Frankl called this "paradoxical intention."
For some reason, the human body's nerves are wired so that if you try to go to sleep (or try to become sexually aroused, same part of the nervous system) then your body backfires and does the opposite.
Try hard to go to sleep and you'll make insomnia worse.
So the trick is: Try NOT to go to sleep. Try to stay awake.
And then see what happens - your tired body will probably drift to sleep if you tell yourself that you want to stay awake.
It works.
