The best of the "Brit Coms"?
Me, I am still partial to Monty Python and Black Adder above all else. :) But Allo Allo was a lot of fun too.

24. "Don't mention the war. I mentioned it once..."
"...but I think I got away with it. So it's all forgotten now and let's hear no more about it. So, that's two egg mayonnaise, a prawn Goebbels, a Herman Goering and four Colditz salads....no, wait a minute...I got confused because everyone keeps mentioning the war."

10. Starring Mos Def, Sam Rockwell, and John Malcovich

While one of my favorite sites, it doesn't seem to be too current, as I remember hearing that shooting had started. Script by Douglas Adams.

I'll see if I can't dig out something else.

Hyacinth, Rose, Daisy and Violet along with the senile Daddy", the colonel, and various assorted characters. My favorite was Daisy's sluggard husband, Onslow.

Also must add The Goodys. I haven't seen it in over 20 years -- but it was so funny. I also love To the Manor Born.

19. Monty Python was ingrained in me at an early age.
So that's definately my favorite.

Good lord, my dad used to watch Benny Hill all the time- can you say juvenile? OK, a little funny though (a bit sexist though).
A couple years ago, I went through a rather odd Red Dwarf phase where I stayed up late a couple weekends in a row watching all the episodes.

20. "Last of the Summer Wine!"
I don't think this ever aired in America. The provincial aspect wouldn't be understood in America.
Best line I remember: The three Yorkshire "boys" wonder about Heaven and Hell. One says this obviously isn't Hell, because Hell would be further south (near London).

...on the Long Island PBS station's Friday night Britcom lineup. At first I found it boring, but now I think it's charming.

Anyone ever seen Mulberry? I like that one too.

And of course AYBS and 'Allo 'Allo!

27. Monty Python's technically not a "Brit Com"...
...it's a Brit sketch comedy program, not a sitcom. But I loved it.

Also loved Fawlty Towers and Father Ted. Basil Fawlty reminds me a bit of Ralph Kramden, especially his blowhard-iness. Father Ted has a lot of Python-ish absurdism in it.

Yeah, I know Father Ted is basically an Irish show--the producers, writers and actors are all Irish--but wasn't it aired on UK's Channel Four? It's doubtful that the Irish TV network would carry it--too much pressure from the Catholic Church. But I think Channel Four, as well as other British networks, is carried by Irish cable systems, so they probably snuck it into its native country by the back door.

I have every episode of all 3 series on DVD.

29. "Do shut up"
It's about a hard-drinking yet loving family of soccer hooligans. If they're not having a go with the birds, they're having a row with the wankers.

33. 'Allo 'Allo: large "cult" following but also sadly overlooked
Gets the "oh really" response from a lot of folks when they find out it's the brainchild of Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft, the "Are You Being Served" masterminds.

34. Spaced
Bunch of stoners doing the sort of things stoners do.

BBC Radio 4 comedy like the Now Show, The News Quiz, I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue is also excellent & often a starting off point for transition to TV.

I'm always trying to draw attention to the repeats of Radio comedy on BBC7

Including radio versions of League of Gentlemen, Dad's Army & others.

35. "British Men Behaving Badly" and "Coupling"
Unfortunately, the major US networks tried to Americanize them, and they stunk.

Re: non-comedy (well, maybe sorta comedy - it has its funny points), does anyone watch Monarch of the Glen ?? I LOVE that show !
