Title of Star Wars Episode III released:
Revenge of the Sith

Not very imaginitive, but a pretty solid title.

1. I think these new Star Wars
have been very weak.

2. Indeed.
I didn't really like I or II, and I'm a huge fan of the old trilogy.

5. Telling the back-story is a mistake
That's part of the problem. These "prequel" ideas worked fine as providing a kind of three-dimensional backdrop to the first 3 movies, gave the whole narrative a sense of depth as you glimpsed bits of preceding plot lines. But it's like the buildings on a studio lot--there to give depth when glimpsed behind the main action, but not bearing much inspection in their own right. The problem now is precisely that there isn't any backstory for these stories, so it all seems kind of flat, rote, forced, paint-by-numbers, programmatic. Just Lucas doing out the scheme. Leaving the theater, I wanted to ask "Is all this stuff gonna be on the final?"

I liked the whole 9-movie idea better as a myth about what Lucas was doing than as an actual accomplished reality. Some ideas are better left unrealized.

3. I watched the old ones recently . . .
. . . and they are much better than the new series. I'd wondered if perhaps I'd just forgotten how cheesy they were, but not so. They were funny, had new characters introduced occasionally who were interesting, were innovative and just fun.

The new series is just bad.

6. Well, that's consistent. Dumb sounding title like the last dumb sounding
titles of the last 2 movies. Which, coincedentally, sucked ass. I used to be such a fan of Star Wars, now I just dread that I was. Damn you George Lucas!
