Gibson - SG? or LesPaul?
I'm gonna cheat on my strat and get a new sound this fall.

What do you like? The AC/DC - Back in Black sound of the SG or the heavy, thick toned Les Paul a la Jiimy Page - Whole lotta Love

I'm leaning toward the Les Paul. Any shredders in the house?

2. Why don't you customize if you want a new sound?
Try one of the guitar customizing companies to get a unique sound, like this one.

Apparently, the choice of wood affects such things as chunkiness and sustain. These guys also offer custom pickups and necks, including a very wide 1 7/8 inch narrow profile bolt on neck which is the type of neck I love.

While you're at it, you might try changing the speakers in your amp. Eminence recently came out with 17 different speakers that can change your sound from sparkling vintage British to chunky sustain.

5. Both are great guitars
I've owned both. If you're going to be mostly recording and playing at home, get a Paul. If you're playing gigs, get an SG. The Paul is a back breaker.

7. I'm a Gibson girl
Good for you, cheating on the Fender. I like the SG sound, personally, but the Les Paul is quite nice too.:hi:

8. narrowed down to these

Trading in an old Jackson and a beat-up Ibanez for one of these - with a hefty balance still left over!.

9. I have an Epi '62 SG reissue.
Cherry, of course. It's OK. I don't shred so the smaller scale doesn't suit my style. I have more of a Keith Richard open string thing goin' so I usually play a Tele.

But I love the Jimmy Page tone myself.
