Does *anybody* still play D&D? |
|
I was in that first generation of D&D referees who had the three little books, and had to make up almost all of the rules... I had the ¿pleasure? recently to see what passes for D&D rules now, and I wonder at who could possibly have any fun with these? They are so detailed that all of the creativity has been beaten out of the game!

1. I'm friends with the guy translating D&D3E into Japanese... |
|
Well, more like acquaintances through previous work in translation in the other direction but... well, GURPS is real popular in Japan too. Who's to say the rule heaviness wouldn't appeal more to that market. All the veteran role players I know (including my gf and best friend) are much more into the role playing aspect. But they don't need crutches. For younger people - and I'm not that old, mid-20's - maybe it has that charm...

Have since 1980.
Yeah, instead of the DM winging it, and winging it a different way each time, the rules are more thought out. So, I have more fun because I don't have to worry that things are going to change from week to week.

4. Not me. I play Shadowrun! |
|
Nothing quite as satisfying as throwing a big handful of D-6's at an opponent!

I'm not sure what he's playing now, but the pictures in the book sure are creepy. :scared:

6. My friends and I played star wars RPG |
|
and, like D&D, it was awful with a lot of rules.
So, we modified them and threw out almost all of them except for character creation and combat system.
It's so much more fun that way. My suggestion is - F the rules.
