Has anyone here ever been to a major party convention? |
|
Before I die I want to attend one Democratic Convention. What is it like?

It was pretty entertaining. Christie Brinkley mugging for the cameras in an otherwise empty auditorium, lots of other celebrity types hanging out. I got to meet June Lockhart, who's apparently a big political junkie and a Democrat. It was a lot of fun. Plus you get to hear the speeches without SCLM spin. I had no idea that Al Gore was such a terrible speaker until I got back to my hotel room and heard it from the SCLM pundits on TV.
Weirdest part was the finale. I was up in a press booth at Staples, While a bunch of actors and dancers from a produciton of The Music Man were mincing about onstage to the tune of "76 Trombones," you could watch scenes outside on the television monitors of cops busting the heads of protestors.
I'd really like to go to a Republican convention. My wife went to San Diego in '96, but the German-language one in Houston in '92 woulda been the place to be.
