My non-confrontation with a repub on US-290, or how I spent my Monday
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 09:43 AM by TXlib
Copycat/parody of this thread.

So, I'm driving down US-290, going to work. All of the sudden, the car to my right puts his turn signal on to merge in my lane. I notice he has a Bush/Cheney 2004 bumpersticker. Not only do I not lay on the horn, flip him the bird, or scream expletives at him, I actually ease off the gas to let him in!

And you know what that repub did after I let him in? You how he expressed his appreciation?

He waved thanks in his rearview mirror!

Now I ask you, am I a bad democrat? Should I have stepped on the gas and cut him off?
============================================================

Folks, road rage and politics is a bad mix. During the morning/afternoon commute is not the place to express your contempt of the current administration by engaging in road-warrior tactics with anybody with a republican or conservative bumpersticker. I've seen threads here about how people were harrassed by assholes on the road for their leftie bumperstickers. How about showing the same solicitude to other drivers that you yourself expect, regardless of political affiliation?

End of morning soapbox sermon. Can I get an "Amen!"?

1. You'll get an "Amen" out of me.
large, heavy steel autos and rage don't mix--no matter what the disagreement.

There is NOTHING worth getting all in a huff over. That huff may end up killing someone.

And besides, I really feel for you and the wife, because y'all have the WORST commute in the city.

Keep exercising your caution and holding your dominion.

The world needs more civility, not less. I wouldn't have handled it any differently.

7. Sorry, don't feel too singled out.
Fact is, there are a fair number of people here who have shared similar stories. Not always about road rage, but about other confrontations where politics just didn't have to be part of the deal.

I want to win this election, and we won't do that by convincing moderates/independants that we're left-wing nut jobs.

:D

9. No, you didn't make a mistake
sharing your story. It's actually a good thing you did. Next time you are in that "mood" and a similar thing happens, you'll likely think about the potentially deadly ramifications of giving in to your anger while driving and be able to restrain yourself. Friends don't let friends do dangerous things.

8. Amen, Bro.
I can't imagine anything more idiotic than starting shit with another driver over his bumper sticker.

Eventually, one of those drivers will be carrying a gun or will just decide to knock your car off the road. You can be dead right and silent, or just dead. If you start crap at 60+ MPH just because of a bumper sticker and wind up in a mess, don't look to me for sympathy.

Besides, my neighbor has a Bush sticker on her car, and I had to borrow her car once after mine got stolen. Bush isn't getting my vote, but at least one person on this board would have started something with me, which is something I'd expect from a Repug.

Sad.

11. Amen brother
Driving has nothing to do with political affiliation. Mixing them is idiotic.
