Favorite "G-Rated" movie!!!! (Kiddie movies that even adults can love!!!)
I would have to say it's a tie - but I love both of these movies!!!

Babe and Chicken Run

Both movies had great inspiration stories (a pig who wanted to be a sheep dog/Chickens trying to escape the tyranny of a chicken farm) and were very well done (Babe was live action with talking animals, Chicken Run was Claymation).

What are your favorite "G-Rated" movies!!!

1. "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"
My very favorite children's movie. Wonderfully bizarre.

And no, I'm not interested in seeing the remake with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. :-)

4. I'm the opposite - I really am looking forward to Tim Burton's version
Personally I thought the Gene Wilder version strayed too much away from the book whereas Tim Burton wants to keep to the story line. The book always had a macabre storyline and that's what Tim Burton is all about

Although I do love Gene Wilder I really look forward to Tim Burton's take on the story and Johnny Depp. Something to look forward to.

9. I'll second this. And it's the most un-David Lynch film Lynch has made.
It has a narrative which is straightforward, simple. A beautifully told story you're not scratching your head over when it's over...unlike every other movie David Lynch has made. :-)

31. Gave my 4 year old nightmares for a week
I enjoyed it very much, as I do all of Miyazaki's work, but Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke (the only cartoon created that's capable of turning anyone into an environmentalist) seem to be targeted at a slightly older audience. It's not as kid friendly as some of the other titles to come out of his head or studios (like Kiki's or Castle in the Sky)

"Emil and the Detectives," not the 1960s Disney version but the German version made around 1999. (It's a German children's classic, after all) Fun for adults and great for kids who don't mind reading subtitles, as a group of children pursue a thief through modern, multicultural Berlin.

By the way, I agree with the assessment of Spirited Away, but it hung on to its G rating by making an important change for American audiences. Remember the Stink Monster? Well, in the original Japanese, it's the Shit Monster, which will make sense to you if you've ever seen the film. Bathroom humor is considered totally appropriate for children in Japanese culture, judging from what I've seen on TV, but Americans are a bit more uptight about this.

46. I just re-read "Emil" last week after about 40 years...
My biggest surprise: It was written in 1929. When I was a 7-year-old kid I thought it was a contemporary story.

I really remembered liking it - but I must say, for me it did not really hold up to 2004. :(

Still fun to re-read, tho.

Monsters Inc, Babe, Milo & Otis...

I watch more G and PG movies than anything else. In part, it's because I've got a 6 year old; but for the most part, I get tired of the obligatory sex-&-violence-sells shocker scenes in the more mature films. Ho hum...
