My computer powers up, the keyboard flashes once, and that is it. There is no power to the keyboard after the initial flash and nothing comes up on the monitor. The lights on front of the computer stay on and the CD drives open and close. What is the problem?
(I am using my spare machine at this time.)

Might be loose.
Otherwise, get a new keyboard. They're cheap.

2. make sure your speaker is hooked up |
|
It sounds like it's failing its power-up-sequence. Often this is because of loose or blown RAM.
The speaker may give a series of coded beeps telling you what's wrong (see motherboard manufacturer's website).

10. I agree with the RAM idea |
|
I'd swap in some new RAM and probably look into trying a new power supply. If neither of those are bad then it's probably a motherboard problem.

4. Sounds like a motherboard problem |
|
Had to have mine replaced when it acted this way. Cost me about $250.

7. All I can say is, . . . |
|
. . . I had a problem with my computer a few months back, where I would turn it on, it would begin to boot, I could hear the hard drive spinning up for a second or two, then bloop, nothing.
Took it in and they said the motherboard had gone. Thankfully, not the processor.
