Wow, I condensed that mother fucker!

Anyway, does anyone know how to change the default error page that comes up when one can't be displayed? Some how my page changed to some adware BS and it pisses me off every time a page doesn't load.

11. Here you go...
first set a system restore point....we're gonna be messing in the registry, and if this is your first time, you need to back up.

when that's done...hit start (windows key), then click on run

in the box that pops up type in "Regedit" without the quotation marks and hit enter

You should see this:

see how I've clicked on HKEY Local Machine?.....expand it by hitting the little plus next to it.

It should look like this:

From there expand the following (using the plus):

SOFTWARE

then expand MICROSOFT

then click on Internet Explorer

It should look like this:

See on the right hand side, how I have "SearchURL" highlighted. Double-click on it and change it to whatever you want. You can leave it blank also.

After changing it...hit okay, then you can exit regedit.

That's it.

14. Okay here's the solution

Go to the page that you're trying to get rid of. Do this by putting in a bad URL in IE (not in regedit, actually do it in Internet explorer).

copy part of that URL (don't copy the http part of it)

go into regedit and hit control_f. This will bring up the search bar. paste in that section of the URL you just copied, then hit find. It should bring you to the key you need to change.

Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 09:03 PM by TroubleMan
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/
SOFTWARE/
MICROSOFT/
INTERNET EXPLORER/
MAIN

Same place as we went before but expand internet explorer and click on MAIN.

You'll see default page url and default search url on the right.

16. Also, two more things to check for

after you've blanked out those keys (or changed it to the url you want), keep searching for more occurances of that URL. Kill them as well

Sometimes you have spyware that will put that information back after you've deleted it. If that happens get Bazooka here:

http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/index.html?source=appvisit

Install it and do the update and scan. It will give you manual instructions like I just did to completely get rid of all your spyware.

19. It's for something called
Search The Web.

It has the normal error message, as well as a popup window and a search box...also when I restart my PC they hijack my home page addrees and put their little bar on the bottom...when I fix it in IE options, it stays that way until I re-start again.

20. Okay, then you'll have to do deep removal...try the bazooka.

It will get rid of it.

If you got Adaware or Spybot, then try those first, because they'll do it for you.

If those don't work, then you'll have to use the Bazooka, which will catch it, but it only gives you instructions on how to remove it.

If you need any help, please ask.
