I'm back from the 2 minute hate - what happened, ya pukes????!!!!!
So, obviously I started reading 1984 today. We read Animal Farm in High School so I missed this one. Figured I'd give it a go. Um - fucking scary folks!

Please, no spoilers!

1. Re-read Animal Farm
We read it in high school, and it was a criticism of Totalitarianism.

Then we read it in a Russian history course, and I was shocked at how much it parralleled the Russian Revolution. Every single tiny little event that is left out of most history books is recreated, by animals, in Animal Farm.

8. Yes, but most people don't get that from a high-school read
Unless you went to very different high schools than I did...

3. We read 1984 in my senior year of high school. I
remember how relieved we all were that nothing like that could or would ever happen in our own country. And now the parallels, especially the media nowadays, are downright frightening. Scary and depressing as hell.

11. To put this in perspective: I read Stephen King's "The Stand"
that same year. As much as I loved "1984," I was OBSESSED with "The Stand." Ah, youthful pretention! And my father let me read his copy of "The Anarchist Cookbook" the year before. I was raised in a house that REALLY valued reading, especially dangerous political stuff.

Yes, I am a proud kiss ass.

7. I was in Junior High in 1984, and they made us read it in English class

I would have read it anyway, and Animal Farm is one of my favorites.
