So we just got a call from this thing calling itself the "Federal Government Grant Information Center." A man with a thick accent and the improbable name of "Samuel Morris" immediately started smooth-talking me about how Xen and I had a guaranteed grant of at least $8000 due to us from the government. All I had to do was give out my name, address, and phone number, and provide him my bank name, checking account number, and routing number. When I balked at that, he said I was on a "secure recorded Federal line."

So I thought fast, makde up phony but plausible numbers, and got him to give out his 800 number.

Tomorrow morning, I'll call the cops and report the attempted identity theft. Probably will call the FBI, too, because this is happening across state lines. I want to take these scammers down like I took down Manuel...
