Poll question: Would you rather be Poor and Smart or Rich and Stupid?
It's my Unofficial brains vs. wealth poll. And no.. "if you're so smart you'd be rich" does not apply!

3. The smartest and happiest woman I know...
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 01:55 AM by blackcat77
...and the woman I admire the most in the world has lived the past 50 years in a little-bitty house with hardly enough money to get by. But she and her late husband -- a newspaper editor and decorated hero from WW2 -- raised 4 kids who've all turned out wonderfully and she's got literally HUNDREDS of friends from the ranks of the common and the elite alike. She won't have air conditioning because she says she couldn't stand to miss hearing the sound of the birds in her yard. She quit school after the 6th grade, which wasn't all that uncommon for country girls back then, but reads constantly, both newspapers and great literature. She has an old record player with hundreds of classical albums which are playing all the time.

And, when my own mom died when I was 24, she became just like a mother to me. She's getting well on in years now and can no longer walk very well and her eyes are failing, but her life has been a shining example to a whole lot of people, and is proof that you don't need THINGS to be happy.

13. How lucky you are to have a friend like her.
And how I envy you. You don't find people like this very often in life. Enjoy.

8. Rich and stupid.
To be so would be absolute bliss.

Unfortunately I'm poor and of average intelligence (and slightly above-average curiosity).

There is nothing comforting about having a good working understanding about how our government and economy actually work, or an understanding of how unlikely the p;ossibility of an afterlife is...

I wish I was dumb enouggh to believe it all the way I did as a kid. (Okay, I never completely believed in the God stuff - sounded like Santa to me, but I sure ate up all the Mom, baseball and apple pie stuff...)

9. Poor and smart
A fool and his money are soon parted, or so they say.

Not that you would know it by looking at the likes of Paris Hilton.;-)

I'm a poor smart man and I'm very unhappy.

I'd rather be happy than unhappy...

17. Money won't take away any IQ points, but as far as the theoretical concept
I'd take smart and poor. I'd take happy and poor too. If I have my needs met, extras are just icing on the cake. Money can't buy everything either. In fact, when it comes to the important stuff, money plays little part, but it can be a tool as a means to an end at times.

and that the bible actually got right...

with more wisdom comes more grief.
