It's a classic case of the "pot" calling the kettle black.
A Slidell man who struck up a conversation with a sheriff's deputy about dumb criminals was cited when the deputy spotted a bag of marijuana protruding from his pocket, authorities said.
The uniformed sheriff's deputy was at the Exxon station at 101 S. Military Road near Slidell on Saturday about 1 a.m. when a man walked up to him at the soda fountain, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman James Hartman said.
The man asked the deputy how busy he was and remarked, "There are some stupid people out there," Hartman said.
As they talked, the deputy noticed a plastic bag protruding from a pocket of the man's cargo pants.
When the deputy asked what was in the pocket, the man said it was empty. But the deputy persisted and asked him what was in the bag, Hartman said.
"At that point, the red-faced culprit produced a small bag of marijuana and surrendered it to the deputy, who said, 'What was that you were saying about stupid people?' " Hartman said in a written news release.
