On the dangers of DU

I got halfway through an article before I figured out that the DU in question was "Depleted Uranium", not "Democratic Underground."

I think we need a central registry for acronyms and abbreviations. If someone has already claimed SA for "South Africa" then you can't use it for "Saudia Arabia", "South America", or "Santa Ana". I know I find it awefully confusing some times when a DU (not Depleted Uranium) post starts talking about something going on in "SA" and I make the wrong assumption about what "SA" means and end up more confused than I normally am.

I had a similar issue today when I referred to the

Democratic National Convention as DNC.

3. I find that every time "SA" comes up in an article...

my mind immediately leaps to Sturmabteilung aka the stormtroopers or SA of Nazi Germany.

Not too far of a leap considering South Arfica's... questionable policies in the past.
