7. The one on the left looks like Mama?
When did you discover them under your porch?

They are adorable.

11. Ringtail only moved them up here a week or two ago.
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 09:15 PM by Bertha Venation
She had them and nursed them in the woods somewhere around our house.

This is our fourth litter. The first -- we trapped the mama, Patches, when she was preggers. She gave birth in our basement on 9/11/01.

The second was the litter of Patches' first girl kitten, Sparky. She had SIX kittens. After they were altered, we gave Sparky and her littermate, Shortstop, to a friend to be barn cats. (We never could tame them.)

All the kittens of both those litters were born indoor and raised around humans. They were all adopted (two by us).

Patches had a third litter before we could get her spayed. Two babies that time; they found homes, but Patches had to be put down.

These kittens will stay wild. Hopefully we'll be able to trap & spay/neuter them all before winter -- more importantly, before they breed again. Please, lord...

22. All of the feral cats in your area have spread the word
They are spreading the word that wonderful people live at your house and they can go there a feel safe, have a bite to eat and nap on your porch.

You have a very kind heart and your kitties are darling.

The tuxedo is Domino. He's the first feral to come to us -- shortly after we moved in, more than three years ago.

He's watching the babies closely. He won't take any shit!

17. Honestly? The kittens are so cute that...
I was thinking of hugging the screen. Of course, Mr. Pooky was staring at the screen with a disgusted look on his face (the old 'Thou shalt have no other cats before me' look; I'm sure you are familiar with that look). I love the posture of the big guy. He reminds me of my old boy. "I may look like I'm just relaxing, but just try to get to the kids! I'm armed and I know how to use these things". Congrats on the fur family! Someday, <sigh!>.

14. That's sweet Bertha... since we have been adopted by our
kittens, and feeding them.... all of a sudden we have a gang of hungry mommas and kittens at the trough, and one night a really dumb Opossum, who rapidily decided that there were too many cats around for his pleasure.

I think the animals mark our homes in some way, like the hoboes of the Depression marked the homes of kindly women.

Dig your av. Really. I've never been to the Brooklyn Bridge* but fell in love with Brooklyn of the early 20th century, thanks to Betty Smith.

*please don't tell me that's not the Brooklyn Bridge in the foreground . . .

15. sorry I haven't more variety (but here are kitten eyes again)

and a couple of other critters that have come to us . . .

They are so wild that I doubt I'll ever be able to shoot them from the other side of the window. I saw them playing in the tomatoes tonight, though. They're so cute!

So, now that you've seen our wilting basil (planted too damn much basil for 2 people) and catnip -- time to start drying that stuff! -- and our tomatoes suffering from too much rain and not enough sunshine.... think a stalker could find me by finding this porch?

Besides, she obviously is fair and balanced. She takes meals side-by-side with a cat. She can stand still on all fours.

Fair and balanced. :hi:

30. Foxy and Ringtail have dined together on several occasions.
It's quite amazing. Unfortunately, the one time they tolerated my presence at the window, our niece had our camera in DC with her.

AFAIK, fox and cats compete for the same game -- they may be rivals, but I don't think they're enemies.
