Did anyone else get an email from PayPal?

That was titled "Notice of Pendency of Class Action and Proposed Settlement"?

It starts out with:
You have been sent this Notice because the records of PayPal, Inc. indicate you are a current or former PayPal account holder. This means you may be eligible to receive a payment from the proposed class action settlement in the lawsuit In re PayPal Litigation, Case No. 02 1227 JF PVT, pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose. This Notice provides a summary of the terms of the proposed settlement. It also explains the lawsuit, your legal rights under the settlement, what benefits are available to you under the settlement, and how to get them.

It keeps on going and listing all the legal jargon about this case.

If you did get this, is it a scam or is it for real? It's hard to tell these days when you get this kind of thing in your email.

1. it's real

if they scammed you, you can get $50, or more depending on which form you fill out.
if you were simply an account holder between the selected dates then you will get your share of the settlement divided amongst the claimants (if you file that is.)

well, i'd like to think you'd know right away if they did. things like suspending your account for no reason, incorrect amounts being transferred, unauthorized transfers, etc.

but since I wasn't scammed by them, I didn't feel right in accepting any of the settlement money.

i've never used paypal. so i assume its a scam.

Ebay owns it.

I tried opening the form to see what kind of info the wanted. But it appeared the server was busy. So I'm waiting a few days. Of course, I've never had any trouble with PayPal the few times I've used it. So probably ought to let it pass.
