HELP! What do I do? Motherinlaw spewing ...
My wife just called and told me this story:
A John Edwards ad came one and my son (age 8) said this:
"Mom, do you know what he is trying to do? He is trying to kill babies before they're born?"
Mom: Who told you that?
Son: Grandma.

She watches our kids about once a month b/c we need her to.
I don't really breach politics too much with my son b/c I think he's too young to really understand (am I wrong?) and I find it completely offensive that she would do this. I'm so pissed I'm shaking right now...

Does anyone have suggestions about what to do - I want to keep some semblence of family so I can't outright rip her like I feel like doing right now.

God - I can't tell you how pissed I am! :grr: :grr:

HELP!

2. I would lay down the law and spell it out in no uncertain terms.
It's your kid and you have the right and an obligation to keep them away from bad influences.

3. Lay down some ground rules....
Just sit her down and rationally tell her that you are raising your children and at this stage in their life you are trying to allow them to be children. Tell her that while you respect her opinions on the matter, it is unnecessary to play politics with children since you have to deal with the fallout by trying to explain what the children are too young to fully understand, you'd appreciate it if she stopped it.

9. thanks - I think I can do most of that
I might have to bite my cheek to get the "respect" line out, but that will definitely open her more than not saying it.

But, she thinks we're going to hell anyway because we go to the wrong church. :wtf:

10. Great. You both go to church, but she still thinks you're going to hell.
Good luck reasoning with this woman.

4. Poison my child = no contact
It's really that simple. I would tell grandma that if she foists any more of her political BS off on my child that she will be instantly cut off.

5. Tell her the ugly truth.
Tell her it's pathetic to try and politically manipulate eight-year-olds.

12. I will add something like this into it
maybe not the actual word "pathetic" but something close enough.

13. Spend the money and hire a sitter
Then tell your mother-in-law that you don't want her inculcating your child with her ignorant spew.

14. I had the same problem
with my mother. She was preaching to my kids about the end of the world (they are 6). I just told her either she keeps her mouth shut, or she doesn't see them. She now keeps her mouth shut. I would suggest you tell your mother in law the same.

ORRRRR the next time you see a Bush commercial tell your son "Hey, that guy just killed over 900 of his own people in another country" but thats not something I'd really suggest. ;)

Good Luck :)
