Something that has been bugging me lately: |
|
Once you say "That's just My Humble Opinion", that opinion CEASES to be HUMBLE! (Do you know what HUMBLE MEANS?) That is my least favorite phrase. And if you're saying the opinion, we already know it's your opinion. And if it's not, you will tell us, I hope. This shit is understood. Thanks. That was my soapbox moment of the day. Duckie

5. Those aren't acronyms. They're just initials... |
|
Acronyms are words formed from the initial letters of a name, such as WAC for Women's Army Corps, or by combining initial letters or parts of a series of words, such as radar for radio detecting and ranging. Duckie

7. ha ha! I just looked up the "definition" of IMHO and found this: |
|
emphasis mine
IMHO in my humble opinion (or in my honest opinion)
An acronym often used in email, posting, and chat directly before an opinion that may be honest but is rarely humble.

At least, in my case it is.

4. What about "literally"? |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 11:11 AM by Finnfan
As in "I was literally blown away." Excuse me, but if you were "literally" blown away you wouldn't be talking to me right now, would you?
"Literally" has become the "figuratively" of the new millennium.

8. Mine is "I am an Independent Voter" |
|
What they are really saying in direct face of it is not that they are well-informed and independent of party loyalty because they like a cafeteria plan.
They are Independent often to disguise the uninformed and disengaged nature of their citizenship not really independent to relate a thoughtful opinion on how a Republican or Democrat differ and take a stand.
It's hip to be Independent, though more likely it is easier to not know the issues and parties than it is to get behind either one of them.
