Sheeesh...what a bad day for movie remakes and sequels!
Michael Keaton in "The Love Bug".

A sequel to "My Bloody Valentine".

A sequel to "Happy Birthday to me".

A remake of "The Entity".

And Deuce Bigalow 2".

This has to be the worst daily list of remakes that I've seen in years for one day.

1. Apparently the re-make of the Manchurian Candidate sucks too
according to the review in Salon.com. (It would be hard to improve on the original anyway IMHO).

3. The original is pretty much a perfect movie, IMHO.
But with Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep, and Demme directing, I'll probably give in and see this one at some point. Reviews overall have been generally favorable.

Oh, wait, Demme has once again thrown a small part to Charles "lead singer and driver of the Winnebago" Napier. That's it; I have to see it now.

7. He was brilliant in Star Trek "The Way To Eden" and
as Baxter Wolfe in "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls."

11. Not to mention as Tucker McElroy in "The Blues Brothers"
A cop in "Miami Blues" (my dad for some reason loves Jennifer Jason Leigh), the judge in "Philadelphia", the NORAD commander in "Austin Powers," and, my personal favorite, his turn as Duke Philips on "The Critic.":D

14. crap. I'll go see it though.
Roger Ebert mentioned last night that it wasn't so much a remake as a retelling, updated to parallel the current political/corporate scene.

2. Remake of the Entity?
The first one was bad enough! A ghost raping a woman. "Based on actual events".

5. I like ghost movies
But The Entity left me with this sick feeling. Maybe it was because I saw it with my mother who has actually been raped by a real-life person.

8. A sequel to My Bloody Valentine?
Don't hold your breath. It's been thirteen years since their last album.

9. Sadder still, there are movies on the list that I've never heard of!
Aren't sequels usually made of movies that were blockbusters, that made a lot of money, that folks would remember?

WTF is "Happy Birthday to me"??? I follow movies, and that title doesn't sound the least bit familiar.

10. Here you go
It, along with "My Bloody Valentine", came out in the post-Halloween slasher craze. I saw all these shows as a kid, but I can't imagine them doing sequels to them now.

13. If they can stop re-shooting it, it might be good
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 06:03 PM by khephra
They've already had to scrap an entire film's worth of shots and hire a new director to redo the prequel from start. That's never a good sign.
