Hey ya'll. I'm a little worried... |
|
.. It's the strangest thing..
I have this burning sensation... not like hot pepper burn or a sting.. like a real sensation of heat... localized right over my heart, on my chast and in my back too right over where the heart is..
It feels like there's a heating pad inside my chest....
Not paintfull.. no other symptoms..... but the left side of my chest is burning hot as if I have a raging fever localized over just that spot...
I'm a little worried here....I had a real mild form of this once before (much milder) and brushed it off as just a wierd feeling for a second.. but this time it's hotter and lasting longer...
Anyone else ever have this?

4. Well, it never hurts to have a Dr. check you out |

But my father-in-law is a physician, and diagnosed Heyo's symptoms (when I had them, of course) as gas pains. Took something like Mylanta and/or Alka Selzer Gas Relief pills, went away.

try an antacid.
How old are you? What kind of shape are you in? If it gets any worse, or starts to radiate up your neck or down your arm, get thee to the hospital.

and ask them to run an strip on you. Then when you find out you're fine you can kick yourself in the ass for calling. I did this twice for my husband because if this is an heart attack seconds count.

10. EMS had better be taking people to the hospital |
|
If EMS is diagnosing heart attacks just on rhythm strips, they are doing you a disservice.
As for the original poster, do call EMS and go get checked. If this is a heart attack, you are at a substantial risk of arresting. Arresting is bad, very bad. Don't wait.

12. Rhythm strips also miss aneurysms |
|
I forgot to mention that burning pain in the back might also not necessarily be from a heart attack. It could be from an aortic aneurysm which also cannot be picked up from a rhythm strip.
Get to the hospital. If it's a false alarm, money is spent. If it is not and you stay home, well, a lost life can never be replaced by money.

7. I don't know your general health or age. If it is gas it would probably be |
|
relieved with gas x or something like that. I know someone who had a heart attack this week in his 30's non smoker and not overweight. Clean arteries too. Was cause by a heart arrhythmia. He had other symptoms too though.

I recommend turning on some soothing cartoons and putting a channel block on Fox News.

11. The feeling seems to be subsiding a little.... |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 09:31 PM by Heyo
... but I feel a tad feverish all over now... but overall it has diminished...
I was wanting to think heartburn... but this was (still is) so localized to the left side.. right over the heart.. front and back, I always picture the esophagus running right down the middle..
I am staying with the phone right by me, I took two of those baby asprin, and am making a doctors appointment ASAP!
If it does get alot worse I will go in tonight...
I am trying to have an anxiety attack over it and make it worse...
My girl is here with me and I told her what's up so I am in fairly good hands should anything happen....
By the way.. I greatly appreciate the resonses....!!!!
I feel a little better...different now but better...
My status right now is I am sitting with Jenn and the phone and am going to see how it goes right now and make an appointment as soon as I can.. tommorow if I am able, although it's Saturday. That is just not something I wanna f- around with.
If anyone is curious.. I am 28 years old.. I am a light smoker but never considered myself to be a prime candidate for a heart attack... although I also have been meaning to get checked for diabetes, since I have some of the milder signs, and my dad came down with it. (in his 50's he came down with it)...
Much respect ya'll...
Heyo
on edit: Actually, I am trying *NOT* to have an anxiety attack over it.

15. Not all chest pain is from heart attacks |
|
Your age makes you less likely, but does not necessarily eliminate the possibility of having a heart attack. However, heart attacks can happen in children. You might want to look up hereditary hyperhomocysteinemia sometime.
And while heart burn is most likely, there are other very serious causes of chest pain. Like an aortic aneurysm and blood clots which are passed to the lungs.
You are getting better which is a little reassuring. But do be careful.

In my case it is GERD and it can be very frightening. I hae been in to the ER on more than one occasion as a result. The problem is that GERD and a heart problem can have the same symptoms. Please get checked.

What is GERD and what are the main symptoms? Do they include this "hot heart" feeling?

16. Actualy.. looked it up..... |
|
.... but would this cause the feeling that seems to be so far to the left..? That's what always gets me with the Acid Refulx/Heart Problem thing.... isn't the esauphagus in the center and the heart over to the left? How do they get confused so often? WHat I feel is unmistakable on the LEFT side of my chest, and the center under the sternum I feel nothing.

17. Pain often radiates. Everyone is different, and some people don't |
|
even have any pain with heart attacks just upset stomachs. Usually though pain would be accompained by shortness of breath, sweating, pain going into left arm and maybe neck/shoulder area. Doesn't mean you aren't having one if it doesn't though. I assume from your description it isn't a muscle pull. Sometimes pressing in that area will replicate the pain. Tender to push it in over where the burning is. People with arm or muscle pain can feel chest pain but are able to replicate it that way. If you are worried just go in and don't take a chance. Diabetes can cause narrowed arteries at a much younger age than normal.

Go to an emergency room, now! This could be serious. If it isn't, well then consider yourself lucky.
