I celebrated my 30th birthday by trying to hide in bed all day and denying the reality of my own extended existance. I don't feel any older yet, but looking at that cake with 30 torches alight like a miniature Dresden on my dining room table drove home the depressing reality that time and age are inescapable forces that conspire day by day to break us down and make us into what we fear most...our own parents.
The bright spot of my day though, was when my dad came to visit. Seeking to further my misery my dad made the joking comment "So son, how's it feel to be 30? Feel old yet? Aren't you feeling uncooler by the minute?" My response? "So dad, how's it feel to be so old that you have CHILDREN over 30?" The look on his face was priceless :evilgrin:
Ah well, lets share a beer and drown our sorrows. I can put the real depression off until I'm 40...then I'll be really old :toast:
