Yeah, I know he's injured and he has that weird OCD thing with the batting gloves...but Alex Gonzales can't hit and we sure need SOMETHING.

He had a sore achilles the other night but he surely wasn't on the disabled list. This SUCKS ASS. We got 2 shitty players for our second best hitter. We have a whole bench full of non-starters who are better hitters than Minkevich (sp?) and Cabrera. So we've got average defense, it's not worth losing a fan favorite who's been just as good as ever since he came back from the DL. He's batting frigging 321 !

This looks like a winning trade for the Cubs! What great news to come home to after a weekend on the trail.

15. I'm assuming that you mean left-handed hitter...... |
|
Patterson, Walker and Hollandsworth are all fine left-handed hitters. Goodwin is one of the best left-handed pinch-hitters in the game.
I'm more worried about the pen than anything.
The pen will be their undoing, should they make it to the play-offs I fear.

19. Patterson is playing way above his head -- and he's not playing that well. |
|
I'll grant you Walker. Your best LH hitter is a second baseman.
I'll let that sink in.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Hollandsworth hits like my Grandma (okay, before her stroke, but she still wasn't a very good hitter) and Goodwin couldn't get on base if it were magnetized.
And I agree with you wholeheartedly that the Cubs' pen sucks balls.

21. No, Patterson is not playing well. He's playing well below his "head." |
|
That's one reason why the Cubs still have hope.

|
But he's a lousy baseball player.
There's a difference between talent and skill. Trust me on this: you've seen the best you're ever going to see from Corey Patterson.

|
By his age, most players have learned to take the pitch in the dirt.
If Patterson ever learns to lay off bad pitches, I'll eat my hat.
Sure, it'll be a chocolate hat. But regardless, it will be a hat.

29. Hollandsworth's Slugging Pct as a PH is over 1.000 |
|
And his overall Slugging Pct is second on the team to Sosa's. Now if he could just get healthy. Goodwin is a good late-inning hitter. He handles the bat well and can steal a base or two...
I'd rather have a line-up of righties than a line-up of lefties. Righties can hit RHP's better than Lefties can hit LHP's. Nothing is more pathetic than watching a Left-handed hitter trying to hit a LHP's curveball.
I do wish that Walker would play more over Grudzelianek. But then there would be one less Left-handed bat off the bench.
I predict that the Cubs will make the playoffs as a WC, then lose in the first round....probably to the Giants.

Oh, I'll grant you, the Reds suck. Atrocious pitching, poor defense, a general inability for good players to remain healthy, a bullpen straight out of Dante....
But at least we've got some good bats from the left side. ;)
And a .320 hitter whose power has left him and will swing at anything (he'll probably swing at pickoff attempts) and hasn't been able to field his position in 2 years? You can have him.

No need for power in Chi-town, just base-runners to keep those home-runs from going solo.

He'll go .285 with 4 walks and 4 homers the rest of the season. He will play short like a hamfisted, clubfooted version of Dave Kingman (I'm sure Cubs fans remember HIS glove!).
Nonetheless, the Cubs will win the wild card, and they will advance to game 7 of the NLCS. As a prophylactic measure, Steve Bartman will be seated in the 10th row behind first base.
Nomar will throw a routine grounder directly to Bartman, thereby sealing the Cardinals' World Series berth.

How to get the best from Nomar Garciaparra -
Never put him in a position where:
The team has men on base and he's expected to bring them home
The team needs a base hit
There's a hard hit to his short stop position
He needs to throw to first base
Following these simple instructions will allow you to get the most from your Nomar Garciaparra... Should you experience malfunctions with your Nomar Garciaparra please dial 1-800-choke-artist.

Something's not meshing with your posts. Perhaps your grief process is in the denial mode. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

|
The pre-season BS with Manny and Nomar meant their days were numbered, and he has been nursing his injuries a bit much. And this guy turned down 15 million per year for the next 4 years!!! It was the best thing to do with an unhappy player. Sox fans are being sentimental. It sucks but Theo Epstien is the big villain here.
