1. hrmm.....
I doubt it... it's so out of date nowadays. A Playstation II or Xbox are both pretty affordable these days ($159, I think). If the kid is really young, then a PSI may work, but if he's anything older than 7, he probably won't be too satisfied with it.

2. PS2, XBOX,, Gamecube and such
the PSOne is pretty much antiquated, they don't make anymore games for it.

3. I say do it....
go to any game store and they can get hundreds of PS1 games on the cheap...
of course.... you could get them a PS2 and they could get both PS1/PS2 games and watch DVD's....
whatever is clever...

4. Get a PS 2 for not much more than a PS 1
Then, go and get some of the classic PS 1 games that haven't lost their charm. Any knowlegeable game store staff member can help you pick out good games for the kids.

The PS 1 has a bunch of awesome puzzle games that will never grow old. There's one called Ballistic and another one called Devil Dice (don't worry, it's not an adult-oriented game by any means) that I would recommend for nearly anyone. You can pick up the good PS 1 games for $15 or less at a store like Game Stop.

5. PS2 all the way and get him 'ZOE the second run' for it.
By them both used and save a bundle.
