Military DUers - what's the deal with being wounded? |
|
I know some people are wounded and get to go home, others have to stay and fight more. Some get injured more than once. So what's the deal?

1. It depends on how badly wounded one is. |
|
Folks who are not seriously wounded are sent back to serve their tour. Those who are more seriously wounded are sent home to recover.

Something like that. Luckily I never had to face that.

5. The severity of the wound. |
|
I was wounded in 1970, took a round behind my left ear and out beside my left eye. That got me ticket state side. Others were also wounded that day, but not severe enough for a ticket.

7. So, you went home...but did you have to go back? |
|
Does anyone ever have to go recoup for a few months then go back?

Husband was in Desert Storm, driving a Bradley into southern Iraq, they went into a tank trap (no mine, thank God!!!) and husband slammed face into steering wheel, breaking nose, getting concussion, messing up neck (they thought it was broken, but was not).
He was taken out by helicopter, then the helicopter crashed.
He's alive.
Sheesh.

11. It gets worse, actually |
|
when US troops went back months later to get all the mines out of the tank traps (big holes in the ground) the Iraqis dug, they found his wrecked Bradley and discovered there wasn't another tank trap around that DIDN'T have a mine in it except that one.
So the Iraqis obviously FORGOT to put a mine in the one my husband's Bradley fell into.
Hmmmm.
