Put... The Candle.... BACK!
What's your favorite Mel Brooks film?

For me, his best work will always be "Young Frankenstein". (Followed closely by "History Of The World: Part I")

3. I love Young Frankenstein!
Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 02:40 PM by ezgoingrl
My parents took me to see that movie at the drive-in theatre! Marty Felman, Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Madeline Khan, Terri Garr...it just doesn't get any better than that!

I saw Blazing Saddles at the drive-in as well. My parents are so cool!

Edit: Gene Hackman in a cameo!! Yipeee!

16. Tough, tough choice, but I'm with you.
But the "BS" scene with Madeline Khan singing "I'm Tired" makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Taggart's description of a Number Six makes me laugh my ass off just thinking about it!

Followed very closely by YF.

BTW, I've been a huge fan of Anne Bancroft's since 1973, I still can't believe she's married to that maniac!

edited to add:
Taggart: I got it! I got it!
Hedley Lamarr: You do?
Taggart: We'll work up a 'Number 6' on 'em.
Hedley Lamarr: 'Number 6'? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that one....
Taggart: Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' ever livin' thing that moves within a inch of its life. Except the women folks, of course.
Hedley Lamarr: You spare the women?
Taggart: Naw! We rape the shit out of them at the 'Number 6 Dance' later on!
Hedley Lamarr: Marvellous!

9. Young Frankenstein, and then To Be Or Not To Be
"SAY IT! He vas mah BOYFRIEND!"

And having seen both 2B's, I favor Mel's version. Kept the basic flow and humor of Jack Benny's tale, but threw in his own loopy humor as well - and a little pathos as well. Remember the older woman in clown makeup that freaks out when she sees the audience full of Nazis? Putting a star on her and pretending to beat her off to a concentration camp while actually helping her escape is one of the most subversive statements on humor's liberating power that I've ever seen.

Plus: "Is this England?"

... I couldn't pick a favorite between the two. Both are great! (I should have mentioned it as my third most favorite.)

10. Blazing saddles
Its a shame they didnt let richard pryor do the part as the sheriff, he was originally casted.

Then followed by springtime for hitler.

Mel brooks lost it when he started to do parodies though, they were never as fun

13. Oh sweet mystery of life...
I love "YF". Especially the horse neighing at Frau Bucher (sp?) There is just so much to laugh at in that movie.

But I feel the same way about "History of the World" and "Blazing Saddles" too. Oh, man, I can't decide!!!
