Nieghbors house burnt down! |
|
My nieghbors house burnt down last week and I didn't even know it! I smelled smoke last week a couple of times but didn't think anything of it, drove by today and it was toasted. They were renting and are poor, it looks like they saved very little in the way of household goods. I don't know where they are now, it is really sad. They left all six dogs at the burnt up place, (free range dogs). I like animals so I will make sure they get what they need if they don't come back for them. They never took good care of the animals so I will have to fix them, dip them, and get shots for all! I am going to have to hit up the line of credit to do it all, but thats life. After I saw the show on animal planet with a live dog "euthinisation" I wouldn't have the heart to take them to the pound.

I bet any number of people would be willing to adopt them. Put an ad in the paper - after talking to the owners relatives or whoever, take care of them in the meantime. Tragic story, but it could have a happy ending with people like you around.

These dogs have never been confined in any way shape or form, I don't think they would be very happy tied up. They are small dogs so feeding won't break me and my dogs seem to like them. I'm just worried about becoming "the dog guy" that you see on T.V. with 100 dogs taken away!
Edited to add- I forgot to tell ya about the cats! Two that I know of, I guess if they come around I will have to do something with them too!

Don't put an ad in the paper! Sometimes people from laboratories answer ads to obtain animals for labs, posing as just regular people who want a pet! Or an abusive person may answer the ad (they are not always recognizable and can put on a good front). A good rescue organization will check out the applicants for an animal. Sounds like the original owners didn't care about these poor dogs much. Bless you for taking care of them and not putting them in the pound! And the cats too (if they come around)!

I used to have neighbors like that, until their meth lab exploded.

Try not to get overburdened with so many dogs...Are there any no-kill shelters in your area?
