Poll question: Best Rock n Roll Front Man/Woman?
The choices you are presented with are meager, but can anyone do without them? Others welcome.

20. Patti Smith--way underappreciated.
She out-Bruced Springsteen on "Because the Night," one of the rare instances when the cover beat out the original.

11. Lux Interior from The Cramps. No Doubt About It.
I voted Freddie Mercury, beause he's on the list, and he's a top contender.

Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) and Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke) deserve a nod, too.

16. Ronnie Van Zant
An amazing stage presence, and always sang barefoot so he "could feel the stage burn." Didn't pose or preen, and ran a tight, very well-rehearsed outfit. He worked hard, and expected the same of his band. There will never be another like him.

Cameron Crowe considered him the best rock interview subject of his career, and he met them all. He said Ronnie was "a very honorable person", and the most sincere and honest man he sat down to talk with.

34. She'd get my vote
an amazing live performer. A voice like no other and still puts on as good a show at 50 as she did at 30! And she was INTENSE back then. I've seen Plant and Jagger and she commands the stage better than both of them IMO. A highly under-rated performer with one of the most amazing voices ever.

I voted for Freddie though since she wasn't an option.

being a front man for a band is easy when you actually have talent.

these guys pulled off a grammy without a lick of talent between 'em.

now THAT'S a good front!

Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 10:46 PM by Fenris
For sheer anger and rock n' roll energy: John Lydon, hands down.

For sex appeal and sensuality onstage: Mick Jagger, the father.

To me, no one personifies what a lead in a band should be quite like Debbie Harry. I mean, listen to '11:59', or better yet, 'Atomic' and see what I mean.
