Is Free Republic really that bad?

I've never gone over there, but have heard the horror stories.

This site is set up for progressives only. If Free Republic is set up that way, why whine if you get banned? If they want to only hear like views and plan for the election, isn't that their right?

I'm just wondering.

3. FR Banning happens when you are anti BUSH

The deal over there isn't ideology or (as in lib vs con)and you certainly don't have to be a born again Cristian to be one of their faithful (although there is a lot of rhethoric to that effect)

If you don't worship all things bush you're toast and you get banned.

DU, granted, doesn't appear to want bush cheerleaders over here singing bush praises... but they aren't banning people based on their support of Kucinich (or whoever, I just used that as an example and there is no underlying comment in that)

There are a lot of people who post here that don't sound like Kerry was their first pick, but they don't get banned.

If you don't believe me go and check out the biker bar section of libertypost.org. There you will find all the disenchanted freepers who were banned, dishing the dirt about the bushbot invasion at freerepublic.

7. People are banned from DU for improper posts not divergent opinions.

Over on the dark side, posters are banned just for expressing views that differ from the voices in their echo chamber.

10. One difference between FR and DU

Democratic Underground is set up specifically for progressives. We tombstone freepers, we do it proudly, we admit that there is no "free speech" here. If you want to praise Bush and condemn liberals, you're free to do so just as long as you go somewhere else to do it. We don't wanna hear it.

FR, OTOH, claims that there is freedom of speech on their forum. Of course, the "free speech" at FR is a bit like the music selection at Bob's Country Bunker, where they have both kinds of music--country AND western. If you claim to have free speech at FR, you can't make the posters free to either admire Bush, praise him, venerate him, worship him or adulate him.

Or is it that the freepers want free speech for DU but not for FR?

No one questions whether e. coli has the right to invade your intestines. But it's still e. coli and repulsive.

JimRob can ban whomever he likes, but that doesn't make Free Republic less putrid. FR is filled with racism, sexism, religious extremism, hatred, and stupidity. Freepers cheat online polls, encourage violence, and promote limiting rights. The structure of the site is user unfriendly, not to mention ugly.

Free Republic isn't just that bad. It's worse.

The problem comes when certain strains are introduced to areas they don't belong: stomach, small intestine, etc.

and there actually are some decent folks on there. My thought has always been that they just don't know that there are better alternative sites available. However, I'm not into risky enough behavior on there to point them out. I just go there to observe and learn. I know that I'm never going to change hearts and minds of the truly hard-core, but it doesn't hurt to ask an innocent question or two and get people thinking. I don't see much questioning going on there, unlike among us, which is, IMHO, one of the major downfalls of the right.:shrug:

I read them (freerepublic, that is) about once a week or less.

I think you can find the most heinous hateful pugnacious statements there. They'er also anti-American in the deepest,very deepest ways.

If you were to do a study of their statements, you might find the most vitriolic, hideous, caustic statements that have ever existed in political discourse.

It's bad. Really bad. It's even worse than you think.

Spare yourself and ignore them.

Of course, "they" think the same of "us".
