Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said about half of the city is without power, and he said he saw trees down all over the city when he took a helicopter tour Saturday morning. He urged city residents to stay off the roads unless it's an emergency.
"We have weathered the storm," the mayor said at a morning press conference. He reported that there were no fatalities or major injuries in Orlando.
Across the region, scores of people are without power. Orlando Utilities Commission said at least 126,000 customers in Orlando and St. Cloud are without power; Progress Energy said 432,580 of its customers throughout the state are without power; and Florida Power and Light estimated nearly 1.3 million people are without power.
