5. "Hewson and crew's" "irony phase" produced some of their best work |
|
But, to stay on topic with this thread, Mystify is "Hutchence and crew's" best.

24. Yes, my posting it was a slam at the master of caterwauling and sanctimony |
|
When U2 dropped the sackcloth routine for awhile in the early 90s, it seemed as if they were trying for that slick, hedonistic sound (music for fashion shoots) which INXS had already staked out so well.

14. It is the most definitive INXS album, IMHO. |
|
I saw them very early on, opening for Adam Ant. They walked all over the headliner. Hutchence was all over the stage, climbimg on the amps, just fantastic.

20. The Swing Is Not An Early Album |
|
Well i guess it depends on point of view. Your post made it sound (opening for Adam Ant, "early on") that The Swing is and early album.
If i'm not mistaken, it's the 4th album. First album is self-titled, 2nd is Underneath the colors, 3rd is Shabooh Shabbah, 4th is The Swing, and 5th is Listen Like Thieves. There's only 8 i think.
So, if you heard them opening for Adam, was that after the 1st of 2nd album? By The Swing, i would have thought they were bigger than Adam Ant, and not opening for him.
I completely agree on your opinion of that Album. It's the 3rd one i bought, and thought it was a clear indication of their growth. Original Sin is an outstanding opening number. The Professor

An albim cut from the Swing about their miserable experiences touring Florida. Very funny and became a staple at one of the dance clubs I frequented back in the day.
If you like INXS, check this one out.

Underneath The Colors (Album of the same name), and; Don't Change (off Shabooh Shabbah) The Professor
BTW: My band did these two songs as well as all but one off the poll list. We did them fairly differently than the album, except for Don't Change, where we stayed pretty true to the original.
In all, we did 14 different INXS songs.

Kinda chokes me up, actually. The video -- in the warehouse -- is early MTV stuff, and this song has always been my favorite song from a band that became one of my favorites.
Great cover by Goo Goo Dolls by the way, from one of the "Ace Ventura" movies of all things.
Also like "Suicide Blonde", and, of course, "The One Thing". Great video for "The One Thing" at a banquet table with everyone very decadent.
Miss Michael Hutchence very much, just now.

25. "The One Thing," I think |
|
I never did get their song titles straight.
Anyway, my favorite isn't really INXS at all - it's Michael Hutchence with Cold Chisel: "Gonna Have A Good Time Tonight." Dude, that one really rocks hard. Solid rock 'n' roll.
Darn.
Just checked and the one I was thinking of was "Original Sin," not "The One Thing.' I like the "Dream on white boy/Dream on black girl" part. I'd have voted for that one, darn it.
Dream on black boy Dream on white girl And wake up to a brand new day To find your dreams are washed away

I had "Gonna Have A Good Time Tonight" totally backwards - it was Jimmy Barnes (of Cold Chisel) and INXS who did that. It really wasn't a Hutchence property - every un-INXSy. It also was actually titled "Good Times." Apart from that, I had everything straight. It's cool by any name.
It was the lack of "Original Sin" on the poll that has me so dazed and confused. And I'm entitled to whine about this poll not including "Original Sin" because my Three Dog Night poll was host to a bunch of crybaby, Brie-munching liberals who were mourning omission of their favorwit song, poor widdle things. :P
