Poll question: Favorite song by the Spinners? |
|
For much of the 1970s, a new single or album by the Spinners was a guarantee of quality music. Lead singer Philippe Wynne is one of the truly great underrated vocalists of the past 30 years.
Anyway, let's see which of the Spinners' classic recording ranks as DU's all-time favorite. As usual, you're more than welcome to write in any personal favorites that I may have left out of the poll due to space restrictions.

1. You realize many of DU |
|
were born in the 80s...
NEVER heard of the spinners here, and I was born in the 70's...
I would've voted for "Who are the Spinners?"

If you don't know who the Spinners were, it's your loss. They were a terrific, terrific group!

4. If you live in Chicago... |
|
...102.7 plays a lot of this type of stuff, mixed with neo-soul from today.
(Even if it is a Clear Channel station.)

5. Fell in love with top-40 radio when I was about 8 or 9. |
|
That was 1977/78. Just in time to fall totally in love with both of their last two hits.
Not very familiar with the earlier stuff but I'll make it a point to check it out. And you're right. The singer is wonderful in that band.

or the Detroit Spinners, as they were called in the UK -
were the greatest underrated R&B group of the '70s, by far. I went with "I'll Be Around", but may have gone with "Then Came You" which they recorded with Dionne Warwick.
