A peeve of mine: learn to spell the candidates' damned names already! |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 12:38 AM by JVS
Incorrect: Leibermann, Kusinich, Gebhart, Carry
Correct: Lieberman, Kucinich, Gephardt, Kerry
I could understand the occasional extra n on Lieberman or forgetting the d in Gephardt, but some of this shit is ridiculous. If you are going to bash candidates at least spell their name correctly!
On edit: Also the non-candidate. It is Clark, not Clarke.

I'm all for netiquette (no shouting with CAPS, etc.) but as far as I'm concerned bad spelling betrays ignorance. Period.

Distain rather disdain is not that bad a screw up. People will occasionally put in the wrong to,two, too or there, their, they're as well. But some of the constant failure to spell correctly is just terrible.
The reason that some error can always be expected is that the English language is ill-governed when it comes to spelling. In fact, I remember reading in an article that the irregular nature of English spelling may be behind a higher number of dyslexia cases in English speaking lands than in other industrialized nations. Evidently the strict and logical rules of Russian or German spelling make it easier for the borderline cases to cope with the problem.

And why worry about spelling the non-candidate's name? I'm pretty proud I got Kucinich right the first time I tried. I had to look it up and make sure, but I got it right.
