At the time the song was released, Vicki Lawrence had just gotten a new puppy.

When she came home one day the puppy had pooped and peed all over her house. While she was cleaning it up, she heard on the radio that the song had gone to number one and she started crying tears of joy.

And yes, I sang this song in Karaoke too.
