Anyone Like to Teach English in China? Starting Very Soon? |
|
My girlfriend comes from Anda, a small city in northeastern China (Heilong-Jiang province). Some friends of her family have started an English school -- mostly beginning and intermediate level to middle-school and high-school students.
The school had lined up an instructor for the fall season who cancelled at the last minute. They are actively searching for a replacement. Salary is 4500-6000 Yuan per month plus apartment, meals, and airfare.
Is anyone here interested, or do you know of someone who is interested in an opportunity like this? You can either post or send me a private message.

Northeastern China (what used to be Manchuria) is a fascinating and attractive place. The Manchus dominated China during certain periods and split off from hte country at other times. Lots of wheat, cattle, dairy, and oil drilling. The people are robust and friendly. It's within visiting distance of Mongolia, the North Korean border, and the Russian Far East. Like the rest of China, the area is transforming itself. Way different from Guangdong or Shanghai.

the school is less concerned with creditials like TEFL certification and more concerned with having a native speaker with basic teaching skills who can hold draw students out of themselves and make the learning process interesting. They strongly feel the need for a native speaker (preferably US or Canada).
The institution is a small private school that teaches English as a second language outside of the public school system. It was created last year due to the huge and growing demand for learning English. I do not know if they are accredited. Students are of all ages, but I understand that most are middle-school and high-school age.
From my experience with Chinese from Heilong Jiang, I would expect the students to be compliant, family-oriented, and motivated compared with the US.
I will find out more information on the phone tonight (it's 3 AM now).

I have a job lined up in Beijing but my contact person hasn't gotten back to me for a month and I'm still waiting on my invitation letter. I've given him until the end of the week to get back to me and if not I'll need to find another job fast. Since I've already invested quite a bit in preparing to move to China, it might work out well. How many hours a week is the job and will you sponsor people for visas?
on edit: I have a TEFL certificate and a Masters degree in English Lit.

I do not know the number of hours, but will add that to the list of questions I will get answered. I would assume that they will sponsor a visa, but will ask that too.
Check your inbox. I'll write more.
