WooHoo!!! Just got "Iron Heel" by Jack London! |
|
At Barnes and Noble no less. Checked there for it a couple of weeks ago and nothing, today they had it.
Many reviews have labelled "Iron Heel" as a much more accurate description of society gone very bad than either 1984 or Brave New World.
Go figure.
Has anyone here read it?

that, and "We" usually make the top 3 dystopias next to "1984" and "BNW", so hell yes I'd like to read both
of course nowadays we have the reality TV version :-(

3. From what I've read the book predicts the rise of Fascism... |
|
...in Europe to a tee. What remains to be seen is whther it can really happen here.
The book starts with California electing a Socialist Congressman who starts getting the imagination of the Left racing. Unfortunately the Oligarchs wig out and start roundingup, killing, whomever challenges their Rule.
I can't start it tonight though, I'm finishing "Main Street" by Sinclair Lewis, another awesome social/fiction book.

is London's best, IMHO. I liked John Barleycorn, as well, although it's really a one trick pony, so to speak. ;-)

Very disturbing. Shows us that the wealthy are the real instigators of class warfare.
