A Tale of Two Teachers
I mentioned before I have a freepish geography teacher, who made a snide comment when I wore my Dixie Chicks t-shirt (which made most of DU think I was a high school girl instead of a 25 year old guy, heh).

Tonight I had my first database class with a guy I've had before. He's an Army vet who still has shrapnel from Vietnam in his head. Yet he was the one who when I had him the last time (before the Iraq mess) made comment on how the people currently deciding if we should go to war never experienced war themselves. If they had, he reasoned, they might not be so hellbent on starting another one.

I wore my Anyone but Bush 2004 shirt tonight as a little unspoken thumbs up in his honor.

2. well that was pretty much it, really
I was just sitting here contemplating the irony of one teacher not liking that the Dixie Chicks used their freedom of speech and another teacher basically having the same opinon but he actually carries a reminder of why war isn't the right thing to do in his body every day.

It also brought to mind the stories he told about having Top Secret clearance and having to send guys with only Secret level clearance on missions he knew would result in them getting killed but he couldn't tell them about booby traps and land mines because it was Top Secret information and the guys didn't have proper clearances.
