Oy. I have unearthed a copy of MSN Messenger on my computer.

I use Yahoo Messenger installed for one purpose only -- because I can't figure out how to set up a usable network in here (one iBook, one PC, they talk to the Internet and not each other). I can send files to the other computer and its user. (It also works in a pinch, when I'm traveling and I need to reach said other user quickly.) I've been able to treat this like communion wine to the alcoholic -- just for this purpose only.

But.

I apparently registered for an MSN Messenger account when I got this computer (the iBook) and promptly forgot about it.

Now, I do not use Messenger for several reasons. There are two prominent ones:
1. I utterly suck at expressing myself in a real-time chat. I'm OK verbally, OK written when I have a few seconds to think about it...but on a chat, I'm a tongue-tied kid who comes up with the right things to say 10 seconds too late...and I realize the wrong thing is the wrong thing a split second after I hit "return."

2. It's another time sink I can't well afford. It's damn addictive. At least with DU, there's a lag and I can get some work done (thankfully, this isn't my work computer), or pull myself away and go to sleep already.

But the presence of yet another messaging program is, well, tempting. Messenger is calling my name...eeeyyyysroollllll....eeeeyysyyysroolll.....talk to me...(and, no, I don't have anyone on my contact list...but it wants me to put someone there...)

Oy.

(Thankfully, I have dinner with my MIL in a bit, so no chats now. Maybe Messenger will go back into hiding when I'm gone.)
