MSN/Hotmail account problems anyone? Or is it just my computer?
I have been trying all day to get into MSN and my hotmail account but can't get in. Does anyone know if this is just my computer that will not go to MSN.Com or is the whole system down?

1. not just you
I can't get to msn.com, msnbc.com or expedia.com, but I can get to microsoft.com. I think they are having problems because when I try to go to msnbc.com I end up at www.www.msnbc.com.com.

4. Thanks, I guess it is not just me
I am worried because I get like 100 messages a day. No doubt my account is at critical, it will take me an hour to get my account cleaned out when and if I get it back. I just have never seen the account locked out for this long. Usually it is just for a few hours, but this has been for like 14 hours now, never seen that before and with no notice either like they usually do when it is down.

5. I actually did have problems too
I assume you're on XP.

I checked my 'Windows Messenger' immediately after trying to get in, and when I opened it, a window popped up saying I had to upgrade, that there was a security flaw. I went to the Microsoft site, updated, and now everything is fine.

With Xp, everything is wound around this ".net" thing.

Try it.

Oh, and BTW: Download 'Windows Messenger', NOT 'MSN Messenger'. Both different things that do the same.

Side note: I keep getting these grey box pop-ups telling me to buy some pop-up killer. Funny thing is, I get them when I'm not even on my browser or IM (I do have broadband cable internet, with an always-on connection). Anyone know what this is?

6. Can't get into MSN either
Checked google news last night. Typed in "msn" for news search. According to a cnet article, roadrunner users cannot reach msn or hotmail. But it is supposed to be "fixed" soon. However, that was Tuesday night, and I still cannot access Wednesday morning. I cannot access my "messenger's" either.

Hubby though, who doesn't use roadrunner at work, can access msn.

8. I do have Road Runner
But the lack of access to Hotmail and other MSN products was short-lived.

I upgraded messenger, and problems went away.

10. MSN DNS servers are having "issues".....
Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 07:46 AM by liberal_veteran
For the less technical, it works like this.

The internet doesn't really work on
"www.insertwebnamehere.com". When you type that in,
the it makes a request to a hierarchy of DNS servers that tell
it "www.insertwebnamehere.com" is really 65.44.23.01
(it's IP number). If the DNS server says www.microsoft.com is
at 65.0.0.2 and the web site that is at that number is really
"www.playboy.com", everyone who is using that DNS
server will likely end up at www.playboy.com everytime they
type in www.microsoft.com. If the DNS server says hotmail is
at 123.0.1.2 and there is nothing at that address, you will
get "Page cannot be displayed".

It's an overly simple explanation, but that's about the gist
of it.

11. They changed their homepage. Maybe that was what
was making it slow. I had no problems with it this morning.
